Eating here
Three rooms and one kitchen behind all of them
The same four cooks do breakfast, lunch on the deck and dinner at the long table, and every dish is finished in the house kitchen.
The Long Table
Breakfast 6:30-10:00 · dinner 18:00-21:30, Tuesday to Sunday
One table, sixteen places, laid once in the morning and again in the evening. Breakfast is cut fruit, eggs cooked to order, bread from the bakery on Macrossan Street and a pot of coffee that stays on the table.
Dinner is three starters, four mains and two puddings, written on the morning the boats come in. If there is something you cannot eat, tell us at breakfast and it will be handled by seven.
The Louvre Bar
16:00-23:00, daily
One room with the shutters folded right back, so the bar is half outside from four in the afternoon. Rum is the long part of the list, because of where we are.
After nine the only food is toasted sandwiches, which are better than they sound.
The Pandanus Deck
Lunch 12:00-15:00, daily
A timber deck on the garden side with six tables under the pandanus. Lunch is cold: prawns, a salad of green mango, bread and butter, one hot dish of the day.
People tend to end up on the deck with a book in the afternoon, and no one will move you along.
The card
Short, and written the same morning
No printed menu lasts a season here. The card is written after the boats come in and the Mossman growers deliver, so it stays short and changes from day to day.
Guests eat at the long table unless they ask otherwise; the deck is laid for two in the evening as well, and nobody minds which you choose.
