This site is published by the hotel at 14 Davidson Street, Port Douglas QLD 4877, Australia. Questions about anything on this page go to [email protected] or to the front desk on +61 7 4099 2140.
There is nothing to book, pay or sign in to here
This is worth stating first, because it removes most of what a privacy notice usually has to cover. The website has no booking engine, payment page or guest account, so we cannot take your card: there is no place on the site to enter one. Rooms are held by telephone or email and settled at the desk.
What is collected if you only read
Nothing that identifies you. No analytics or advertising tag loads before you choose, and none loads at all if you decline.
The two things stored in your browser
- 01_port_douglas_age_ok - written only after you answer the age question on the front page, so you are not asked again on the same device.
- 01_port_douglas_consent - written when you accept or decline the cookie bar, so your answer holds.
Both are local storage entries that stay in your own browser and reach neither us nor anybody else. Clearing your browsing data removes them, and the site will then ask again. If your browser blocks storage the site still works and asks on every visit.
Server logs
The web server records the request: an IP address, the time, the page, the browser string. This is ordinary hosting behaviour and it is what lets the host tell a real visitor from a crawler hammering the site. Logs are kept for thirty days and then overwritten.
What is collected if you write to us
Whatever you type into the contact form, which is a name, an email address, a telephone number if you give one, dates if you have them, and your message. It arrives at the front desk as an email. We keep it with the booking correspondence for two years so that we can find what was agreed if a question comes up later, and then it is deleted.
Analytics and advertising
If you accept the cookie bar, we may load Google Analytics 4 and a Google Ads tag on later visits, to count visitors and to measure whether an advertisement brought someone to the site. If you decline, neither loads. Google Consent Mode v2 is set to deny all four categories in the head of every page before anything else runs, so every page starts with consent denied from the first moment.
Why we are allowed to hold any of it
- Your consent, for analytics and advertising. You give it at the bar and can take it back from the footer.
- Taking steps at your request, for the contact form. You wrote to us about a room; we have to read it to answer.
- Our legitimate interest, for server logs, in keeping the site standing up and secure.
Who else sees it
The company that hosts the website, because the files sit on their machines; our email provider, because that is where the form lands; and Google, for the tags above and only after you have said yes. We do not sell this data, and no list of guests is passed to anyone for marketing.
Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you can ask what we hold about you, ask for a correction, and complain about how we have handled it. Write to the address above or to [email protected]. We answer within thirty days, and we will not charge you for asking. If our answer does not satisfy you, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner takes complaints.
Children
This site is not aimed at children, and the gaming room inside the hotel is for adults of 18 and over only. We do not knowingly collect anything from a child. If you think a child has sent us something through the form, tell us and it will be deleted.
Changes
If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will also be mentioned on the front page for a month.
